Heart Check Go!

I prayed a very specific prayer the other day. It wasn’t a long well thought out prayer. It was short and exactly how I felt at the moment. I caught myself thinking things that are out of alignment with how I want to be. (I would say with who I am, if I truly could).

The journey

The truth I immediately had to deal with was that it wasn’t the situation that needed changed. The people involved didn’t need to change either. Yes I must admit… It was me. It is me. I knew it even then at that moment, but what I needed was the why. So I Prayed. What I prayed came to me the next day as I read through the word. Don’t you wish all prayers were answered that fast? I do!

Too often when things in other people’s lives go well, instead of being happy for what they have been blessed with, I feel other things. I know I know, I am a horrible person, or just honest. I start to think about my own life and wonder why things are the way they are. Honestly I have nothing to complain about. I know that I have all I need and more. That is not the point. The point is I don’t want to feel this way, I have no reason to feel this way.  Then as I read through the book of Galatians the very next day, God revealed the why and Rocked my world (Gotta love that). I needed it… I still need it.

Gal 5:24 (Msg)Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good-crucified.

25 Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. 26 That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.

Gal 6:4 Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others.5 Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.

Thank You my God for answering the simple prayers, for showing me my faults and how to overcome them. Today I am thankful… for truth, for a God that loves me enough to answer me and heal my brokenness, For the blessings I see in my friends and families lives.

What do You need today? What simple heartfelt prayer do you need to pray?

Happy New Plan

You know and have heard the saying,

“When you fail to plan, You plan to fail”. -unknown

You cannot really say it any simpler. There is so much truth and challenge in such a short sentence. I hear it loud and clear, without a plan I basically do not care. I can rationalize it in many ways (believe me I have). When it truly comes down to it and the rubber meats the road (what am I a car?) my rationalizations fail.  I find myself on a road not heading where I wanted to be heading and quite possibly stuck in a place I never intended to go to.

Coincidentally(not really) it is the the dreaded time of the year to make plans. Happy New Year! Plans that are intended to put us on the course we want to be on, since most likely our last years resolutions have not made it through until now and we need to start over. Hopefully that wasn’t you (or me). Pause {Laughing}>>>

There is one area that I would like to focus on… The Word of God… i.e. the Bible.

Who really has a real paper Bible anymore?

Last year I started on a Bible reading plan and have for the most part been faithful to keep to it. It was a chronological year long read through. I am roughly 30 or so days away from completing it( i started in February, I know, blasphemous isnt it!). I have started to think about what I am going to do for the next year and how I can step up my game. I found this helpful list and thought I would pass it along. Check it out here.

It is full of great resources and different kinds of plans. I would challenge each of you to PLAN on doing something. Make a plan and don’t worry about failing, just commit to something. I am seriously considering doing the Grant Horners System… I haven’t decided yet.

You don’t have to pick one of these just make a plan and plan to keep it.

Don’t worry if it looks impossible or overwhelming, it might be. That is okay, what would you like to say next year( or next month for that matter). I really wanted to read the bible, but I decided NOT to even try. Wanting to do something and actually doing something are very very very different things. So stop wanting and start doing.

As for the rest of your resolutions, here is some encouragement, Feel free to come back and read theses from time to time if you like: You are GREAT, You are WOnderful, You can do it!

So what kind of plan are you planning on doing this year?

Clap your hands

My Son just recently started to clap his hands. I know it is really not that exciting, but to me it is! He is nine months old and grows so fast is it unreal. He is young and still cannot do that much stuff.

Most days I take him by the hands and have him walk around the house holding my hands so he can practice walking. It is so cool to see him grow and learn new things. He even learns things that Allie and I don’t remember teaching him… like clapping. I asked her if she was teaching him it and she thought it was me. That is pretty funny to me but nonetheless he claps all the time now.

Shameless Plug** Cutest Baby Boy Ever!

I was thinking about the whole clapping idea.

Psalms 47:1 Come everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise!

This is one of the verses in the Bible that talks about clapping. It makes me wonder, Why clapping?  Continue reading

Neither here nor there

Jesus said in plain words to his disciples… Go, Tell the world, make disciples in all nations!

He said go to the world, He didn’t tell them a specific place to go to…

So why All the world… By knowing Jesus we know that he came to tell the Jews first. When Jesus left I think he was making it clear…

God cares about ALL people… He loves us all and salvation is for us all.

They didn’t get it at first… Peter needed a dream. (Acts 10) The disciples needed to scatter after the persecution of the church(Acts 8:1-4). Was this not Gods immaculate plan to spread his word further.

They didn’t get it at first. He wanted them to tell the world, their world… Every person they saw, knew and didn’t know, and why wouldn’t they tell! It’s a gift. And everyone should be excited to share this gift of hope, freedom and redemption!!!

What’s YOUR world right now? Who is he “calling” you to? He already said to to go. Your world, your mission field, might be your neighbor, your mission field might be your coworker, it might be your family!

Are you taking his commandment to tell your “world” seriously? Continue reading

I heart you

Psalm 139:23 Examine me, and probe my thoughts! Test me, and know my concerns! 24 See if there is any idolatrous tendency in me, and lead me in the reliable ancient path!

David’s words ring so clear to me so often. God look inside and search me. I know that I do not even know myself as well as you know me!

The truth is there is more of me inside and there needs to be more of God.

David knew that he had not “arrived”. As awesome of a man as King David was, he still knew he needed God’s help to continue to learn and grow. When you look at yourself today would you say that your doing alright? If so then this is the prayer for you (and me). Just like David we need God to reveal things in us that are leading (even our thoughts) on an idolatrous path. Thoughts that can lead to actions unless kept in check. What’s even more dangerous is that without him we would not even realize it. Continue reading

It’s a small group after all…

2 Cor 13:11  11 Dear brothers and sisters, I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
Everyone likes to be encouraged. It is always great when you get that note of encouragement or word of encouragement. Sometimes it comes at exactly the right moment when you need it. At other times it is more of a challenge that keeps you going. I can remember moments in my life when I got just the right thing that God was telling me and it came through the words of someone else… Continue reading

Tv, tv, or tv…

I was listening to the radio the other day and heard something interesting. The broadcasters were talking about a show that they were watching and how awful it was and subsequently, what they ended up watching instead. They posed the question “what did you watch instead?”

Caller after caller talked about the useless things they flipped the channel to. It begged the question inside of me, Why not just turn the tv off? I have to wonder how many people just watched any useless thing because they were already there in front of… What else but their Tv.

I am guilty of it too. Once the tv is on there are so many choices to waste your time watching(even without cable). I have at times, got caught up with watching something I really didn’t  want to just because there was nothing else on at that time. I know now and even then that I could have done something far more productive, but I got sucked in. Of course I’m talking about Tv here, but we all have our vices. I can waste an entire day online, gaming, facebook whatever it is… and never really do the things that really matter. I am not trying to say these things are wrong. In the words of Paul, “everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial”.
The bible tells me to seek first the kingdom of God but most times I don’t even choose to seek him last. I instead choose not at all.
What Are your choices today?
Is it tv, tv, or tv? If your so busy you don’t have time for God but plenty of time for all these other things, then it is time to re-evaluate your choices, then… Choose Christ!

“If it means so much to you that you would be crushed without it, then it’s an idol”…
Crush it!
