Here we go

Do you ever have so many things to do that You just don’t know where to start. For me, when that happens: I think through my list, take it all in, then do something else entirely. It’s crazy I know, but we all need an escape from time to time. I do something else and then look at it with fresh eyes a little later.

You might be saying how in the world would this work? Well maybe it doesn’t… exactly, but it calms me down so I can get back to business. It could be the only reason I don’t get stressed easily. As long as I am working on something else my mind can have a little escape from the madness.

Right now is one of those moments. I have much I need to work on, or could be working on, But instead I am writing. For no other reason but to clear my head. I was on the verge of Anger, Frustration, fear, Anxiety, Carelessness, Giving up, Lashing out… at myself and others! Mainly myself! So, Here goes… Continue reading

I can honestly say that I have heard about Lent for many years and always dismissed it, even ridiculed it(often) as a religious duty. One with no real Heart or meaning behind it. It was a calendar based event that “in my opinion” meant nothing.

This year I have started reading through the bible and find it interesting that God placed so much emphasis on doing things in remembrance. He gave the Israelites songs to sing so that they, and their future generations could remember.

What I find even more interesting is He places things as a reminder to Himself.

Gen 9:14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,15 then I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures of all kinds. Never again will the waters become a flood and destroyt all living things.

To me, when I see that God even has a reminder it doesn’t make me feel so bad for having them.

Glenn Packiam wrote an awesome article about lent on his blog, you can read it here He wrote this which really makes a lot of sense.

“One of the benefits of celebrating Lent is that you’ll be fasting along with millions of Christians all around the world at the same time! We talk all the time about wanting the Church to be in unity, but then dismiss traditions as empty ritual. But what if these sacred traditions can be a way for us to walk in unity together?”-Glenn Packiam

I think it is cool to think that I could participate with christians all around the world in remembering Christ. In the post he goes on to explain how the Christian Calendar was made to point us and remind us of the love of Christ.

Before Jesus began his ministry He fasted for forty days and in participating in Lent and fasting for a time, it is a way of connecting with Him and also remembering all that He did for us when he came on this earth.

I am excited to begin tomorrow on Ash Wednesday, a 40 day journey of growing closer to him and remembering daily his sacrifice for me and you.

As Glenn points out in his blog Lent is also about giving to the poor. Allie and I are participating in 40 days of water you can find out about this awesome project here giving up all our drinks and doing only water.

Maybe You would like to join us and Christians all around the world during this time, I say do it! Anything to bring you closer to God is great!

Col3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Heart Check Go!

I prayed a very specific prayer the other day. It wasn’t a long well thought out prayer. It was short and exactly how I felt at the moment. I caught myself thinking things that are out of alignment with how I want to be. (I would say with who I am, if I truly could).

The journey

The truth I immediately had to deal with was that it wasn’t the situation that needed changed. The people involved didn’t need to change either. Yes I must admit… It was me. It is me. I knew it even then at that moment, but what I needed was the why. So I Prayed. What I prayed came to me the next day as I read through the word. Don’t you wish all prayers were answered that fast? I do!

Too often when things in other people’s lives go well, instead of being happy for what they have been blessed with, I feel other things. I know I know, I am a horrible person, or just honest. I start to think about my own life and wonder why things are the way they are. Honestly I have nothing to complain about. I know that I have all I need and more. That is not the point. The point is I don’t want to feel this way, I have no reason to feel this way.  Then as I read through the book of Galatians the very next day, God revealed the why and Rocked my world (Gotta love that). I needed it… I still need it.

Gal 5:24 (Msg)Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good-crucified.

25 Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. 26 That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.

Gal 6:4 Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others.5 Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.

Thank You my God for answering the simple prayers, for showing me my faults and how to overcome them. Today I am thankful… for truth, for a God that loves me enough to answer me and heal my brokenness, For the blessings I see in my friends and families lives.

What do You need today? What simple heartfelt prayer do you need to pray?

Search my Heart

I have been listening to the album Aftermath by Hillsong United almost non-stop lately. As I was preparing and had been thinking about the set list for last weekend the song “Search my Heart” kept coming to me over and over

…Search my heart and search my soul…

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24 NIV)

I know that this lyric comes from this verse David prayed to God

It really got me to thinking… What a dangerous prayer! Continue reading

Clap your hands

My Son just recently started to clap his hands. I know it is really not that exciting, but to me it is! He is nine months old and grows so fast is it unreal. He is young and still cannot do that much stuff.

Most days I take him by the hands and have him walk around the house holding my hands so he can practice walking. It is so cool to see him grow and learn new things. He even learns things that Allie and I don’t remember teaching him… like clapping. I asked her if she was teaching him it and she thought it was me. That is pretty funny to me but nonetheless he claps all the time now.

Shameless Plug** Cutest Baby Boy Ever!

I was thinking about the whole clapping idea.

Psalms 47:1 Come everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise!

This is one of the verses in the Bible that talks about clapping. It makes me wonder, Why clapping?  Continue reading

I Love IT, I Hate it

Today I was sitting back and thinking a little bit about the things I love, really the things we all love.

It is so true that we find the time for the things we love. Some things are just easy to love. They can be rewarding, entertaining, fun, they take no amount of effort on my part whatsoever. But the problem is, what if the thing I love isn’t fun, it’s draining. It is for lack of a better word… Work.

Here is A shot form my work!

We all know work. Work is what we call that thing we do while we are waiting to do what we really want. Sure, You may be the lucky one that enjoys your job. But the bottom line is, it is still work. You HAVE to do it. I know that there are times that I love what I do. Continue reading

Neither here nor there

Jesus said in plain words to his disciples… Go, Tell the world, make disciples in all nations!

He said go to the world, He didn’t tell them a specific place to go to…

So why All the world… By knowing Jesus we know that he came to tell the Jews first. When Jesus left I think he was making it clear…

God cares about ALL people… He loves us all and salvation is for us all.

They didn’t get it at first… Peter needed a dream. (Acts 10) The disciples needed to scatter after the persecution of the church(Acts 8:1-4). Was this not Gods immaculate plan to spread his word further.

They didn’t get it at first. He wanted them to tell the world, their world… Every person they saw, knew and didn’t know, and why wouldn’t they tell! It’s a gift. And everyone should be excited to share this gift of hope, freedom and redemption!!!

What’s YOUR world right now? Who is he “calling” you to? He already said to to go. Your world, your mission field, might be your neighbor, your mission field might be your coworker, it might be your family!

Are you taking his commandment to tell your “world” seriously? Continue reading
